Game 21 - Queen - 11th October 2021
Captain's Log Stardate Unknown
The Queen Must Die
We quickly formed a plan for tackling the Borg queen. We dispatched Akio into the vent system with a bandolier of frag grenades. The plan was for him to throw the grenades into the room with the Queen. At the sound of the explosion, we would open the door and tackle whatever threat remained.
The explosion was deafening and left the room shrouded in smoke. We opened the door and smoke billowed out. Our actions alerted the strangely corrupted Borg that we had locked out and they started to cut through the doors. As the smoke cleared we realised that the room was lifeless. The Queen was dead along with her Borg minions, shredded by the grenades.
Unfortunately, our plan had also caused severe damage to the Iconion Gateway that was also in the room. We were horrified to discover the body of one of the Tellarite engineers... Mabrin examined the body and discovered that it had been dead for a long time before the grenades detonated. We could not immediately understand what the body was doing in here.
Akio got to work on repairing the Iconian Gateway before the Borg broke through. Whilst he did this, I constructed a grenade trap around the door for when the Borg broke through. The Iconian Gateway sprang into life as the trap exploded and killed all of the Borg. Akio was unable to operate the console, but he remembered our previous reports where only Thavliss was able to operate a prior gateway as it seemed linked to Andorian DNA. He used the body of the Tellarite and sure enough, the console responded!
As another troupe of Borg arrived, we were able to make our getaway back to the shuttle using the gateway itself. Thavliss looked almost pleased to see us as we appeared. We detonated the explosives we had previously rigged in the spaceport and Thavliss piloted the stealth shuttle through the Borg network and back to the safety of the Alpha Quadrant.
Gateway retrieved, samples retrieved, no-one assimilated. Mission accomplished!
